Program Overview

PlaNYC's comprehensive sustainability initiative focuses on building a healthier, safer, and more sustainable New York City through multiple concurrent efforts:

  • Expansion and enhancement of bike and pedestrian infrastructure enabling safer, more accessible active transit.
  • Electrification of NYC’s municipal and public transportation fleets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality.
  • Promoting increased public transit ridership with service improvements and infrastructure investments enhancing reliability and accessibility.
  • Collaboration among MTA, NYC Department of Transportation (NYCDOT), NYC Parks, and NYSERDA for integrated multi-modal transportation improvements.
